No fewer than five persons were confirmed dead on Sunday while 12 others sustained varying degrees of injuries in an accident few meters before Foursquare camp on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
Mrs Florence Okpe, the Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Abeokuta.
Okpe explained that the accident involved a daf truck marked KMC 810 ZB , a Toyota bus marked TMA-244bXA and a Mitsubishi pickup with no registration number.
The FRSC spokesperson said that the accident occured at 6:15 a.m and was caused by excessive speed, tyre burst and loss of control on the part of the driver of the truck.
She noted that due to the tyre burst and loss of control, the truck fell and occupied the road, saying that both the bus and the pickup ran into the fallen truck.
She added that 21 people were involved in the multiple crash , saying that 12 people were injured while five persons were recorded death from the road traffic crash and the remaining unhurt.
Okpe stated that the injured victims were taken to Victory Hospital, Ogere for medical attention while the deceased were deposited at FOS morgue , Ipara.
She quoted the state Sector Commander of FRSC , Anthony Uga, to have advised motorists to shun the use of sub- standard tyres and also apply common sense speed limit especially during the rainy season.
The sector commander sympathised with the family of the victims and enjoined them to visit FRSC Ogunmakin unit for more information about the crash.
