Ogun State workforce has been called upon to engage verifiable means to route digital landscapes towards protecting data and other classified documents against potential threats, so as to encourage corporate guard against cyber invasion.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Dayo Abiodun, made the call while declaring open a day awareness training programme on cyber security, organised for Civil Servants by the Bureau of Information Technology (BIT), at Ogun TechHub, Kobape, Abeokuta, saying the training was to educate participants on various cyber hygiene and best practices to enhance data privacy of the state government.

Abiodun, represented by Director, Standard Regulations, Planning and Research, Mrs. Olatundun Adekunte, advised workers to learn and unlearn while the training sessions last, reiterating that government would not relent until an average employee could identify cyber threats and attack them appropriately, to enable better performance in their job.

“We want to educate the workforce on cyber security risks, simple digital measures to take against cyber-attacks and by so doing, it will enhance productivity in government offices, as well as widen workers’ horizon on best cyber practice compliance for effective service delivery in a time like this”, he said.

In his lecture titled, Threat Landscape: Cyber Threats and Protection Practices, one of the resource persons, Mr. Afolabi Ayelotan, advised participants to always update their software applications, use anti-virus and anti-malware software, regular password update of at least 12 characters comprising figures, alphabets and signs, as well as be wary of opening suspicious e-mails and avoid using public wi-fi for transactions, among others, in order to checkmate hackers.

Expressing satisfaction after the training, some participants, Arch. Ayodele Abiodun and Abioye Oyebade from the Ministries of Housing and Women Affairs, respectively, said they had been more enlightened on cyber security, calling for more of such trainings, so as to ensure best cyber practices among the workforce.
