The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun says it has deployed 1,597 personnel, 32 patrol vehicles and 14 motorbikes to ensure free flow of traffic during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration in the state.
Mr Anthony Uga, State Sector Commander, FRSC, disclosed this during a news conference on Friday in Abeokuta.
Uga explained that the personnel deployed comprised 820 officers and 777 special marshals, saying that the intention of the special operation was to ensure accident free Eid-El-Kabir.
He said that the special operation would commence from June 14 to June 21.
The sector commander said that excessive speeding was a serious offence, saying that an equipment was already on ground to track speeding vehicles.
He explained that the command had engaged driver’s of articulated vehicles on why they should install speed limit device on there vehicles, adding that most crashes in the state were caused by these drivers.
” We have engaged truck owners , the major aspect of there challenge is that most of them don’t install speed limit and they over speed.
” That is why you see them falling down and most of them don’t carry out early morning check on their vehicles.
” Before you move your vehicle in the morning , carry out what is called early morning parade , check the water, check your tyres , check the sound of the engine , check the lighting system . Most of them don’t do it, ” he said.
Uga explained that the FRSC Corps Marshal, Sheu Muhammed was particular about smooth and accident free Eid-El-Kabir celebration.
The sector commander called on motoring public to drive safely and always obey traffic rules and regulations.
Representatives of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) , Park Management and Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) were at the news conference.
