Ogun sponsors technical college principals, instructors on study tour to Gemany

In its drive to enhance human capital development of teachers in its technical and vocational colleges, thereby making them up to date with emerging trends in the technical and vocational sector, the State government has concluded plans to sponsor 8 Principals and 11 instructors across all the Government Science and Technical Colleges to Germany on a study tour.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on technical and vocational education, Prof. Joseph Odemuyiwa at a pre-departure meeting with the beneficiaries, reaffirmed that the move was driven by the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration’s determination to continually train and retrain its personnel, with the view to linking them with best global practice, urging them to reciprocate government’s huge investment by being good ambassadors of the State.

The tour, he said was in collaboration with the German Agency for International Development (GIZ) and is expected to run for two and four weeks for principals and instructors respectively, pointing out that they would translate knowledge gained during the tour to the development of the sector and promote better delivery.

“We have always been setting the pace for other to follow; this trip is another demonstration of this administration’s commitment to the development of not just technical and vocational education but education in general. And of course, Ogun State has always been in the fore front of educational development in Nigeria, I urge you to utilize this tour to rediscover some of the things you are familiar with and I promise you that there would be more of such tours”, the SA said.

Professor Odemuyiwa advised them to remain focus in the course of the tour, strive to be assets to the state and not liability, he emphasized that the government would not relent at enhancing teachers capacity, promising that the government would sustain the opportunities so that others could benefit.

In his remarks, the Acting Executive Secretary, Ogun Technical and Vocational Education Board, Mr. Olubori Akinleye, charged them not to abuse the opportunity in order not to hinder future opportunities, appreciating the government for several steps taken to re-engineer and revamp technical education which has yielded numerous positive outcomes.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Principal, Government Science and Technical College, Ijebu-Ode, Mr. Omotola Samuel thanked the government and GIZ for the opportunity to expand their horizon in technical education sector, promising not to let the Board and the State down.
