Ogun police arrest man who allegedly abducts 2 children in church on Good Friday

The police command in Ogun says it has arrested a 35-year-old man, Sakiru Famuyiwa, for allegedly abducting two children during church service at Ijeja area of Abeokuta.

DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) , disclosed this in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Saturday.

According to Oyeyemi, the suspect was arrested on Friday.

The police spokesman explained that the suspect was arrested following a distress call received by policemen at Ibara Divisional Headquarters.

Oyeyemi stated that while Good Friday service was going on at Celestial Church of Christ, Ijeja, the suspect and one other, now at large, sneaked into the children’s department and abducted two children who were two and three years old.

“On their way out with the abducted children, a vigilant member of the church sighted them and raised alarm, consequence upon which the church members pursued them and apprehended one of them.

“Upon the distress call, the Divisional Police Officer, Ibara Division, CSP Nasirudeen Oyedele, quickly mobilised his men and moved to the scene where the suspect was rescued from angry mob who were about to lynch him,” he said.

The PPRO noted that the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, had ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to Anti kidnapping unit of the state Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation.

He also ordered that the accomplice must be hunted for and brought to book.
