The Nigerian Institute of Town Planners has commended Ogun State government for employing 63 Town Planners and 20 Assistant Technical Officers to ensure service delivery in the state.

The commendation was given by the new National President of the Institute, TPL. Chime Ogbonna during a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

TPL. Ogbonna noted that, the Institute acknowledged the present administration’s positive disposition to the profession and practice of town planning, especially with the signing of the Ogun State Urban and Regional Planning and Development (OGURPD) Law 2022.

In his response, Commissioner in the Ministry, TPL. Olatunji Odunlami noted that, town planners are essential for creating a physical environment that is conducive for individual and corporate prosperity.

“It is on record that the present administration has improved the lot of town planners in the State, with the restructuring of the Ministry, there are now 14 directorates for town planners in the Ministry and its Agencies, reducing the bottlenecks to career progression”, he said.

The Commissioner further stated that the OGURPD Law must be allowed to run its course, as any possibility for its amendment can only arise from the issues found during implementation.

The State Chairman, NITP, TPL. Adefela Sogbesan, appreciated the management for the willingness to collaborate with relevant stakeholders in the sector for the wellbeing of citizenry.
