It was encomium galore on Wednesday as Dr Babajide Grillo, Director of Administration, Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), voluntarily retired from service after 21 years.
The retirement party, which was held in grand style in LUTH Idi-Araba, had in attendance the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of LUTH, Prof. Wasiu Adeyemo; family members, friends, associates as well as LUTH members of staff.
Speaking, the CMD said that in LUTH, members of staff work very hard, hence the management celebrates its workers very hard.
Adeyemo said that Grilo was an administrator par excellence who, having worked meritoriously in LUTH and retiring voluntarily, had contributed his own quota to the health institution.
He said that Grillo was a well experienced administrator who would be missed but they took solace in the fact that he had groomed so many who worked under him.
In his comments, a former CMD of LUTH, Prof. Chris Bode, said that Grillo was a good listener, a team leader, innovator and diplomatic administrator with innovative ideas.
He said that he was also a good advisor.
On her part, Ms Omolola Fakeye, Head of Corporate Services, LUTH, said that the day was most significant in the history of LUTH being that Grillo retired voluntarily.
Also, Omotola Grillo, daughter of the retiree, said that her father is a great man who deserved everything that happened at the retirement party.
Grillo said that her father impacted lives one way or the other and that he liked to help people.
She said that Grillo was a man that people looked up to and a great mentor.
Responding, the former director of administration said that what he saw was the reward of everything he had worked for.
Grillo said that he was happy seeing LUTH management, top management members of staff as well as heads of departments celebrating with him.
He said that there would be no gap in the line of duty as many people had been groomed.
