The Present administration has reaffirmed its commitment towards prioritising and resuscitating the Technical and Vocational Education Sector in the state.
Governor Dapo Abiodun disclosed this during the presentation of the 2025 Appropriation Bill, tagged “Budget of Hope and Prosperity,” to the Ogun State House of Assembly, emphasising the significance of investing in the technical and vocational education sector towards addressing skill gap, promoting entrepreneurship and equipping youths with employable skills, to drive economic growth.
The Governor further stated that his administration has introduced industrial exposure programmes for teachers to align teaching methods with real-world industrial applications in order to bridge the gap between education and industry.
He revealed that the government has revamped and rehabilitated eight technical colleges across the state, pointing out that these colleges have been equipped with state-of-the-art workshops and laboratories, focusing on producing mid-level technical professionals to meet the industrial demands.
Abiodun revealed that to keep pace with market needs, six new trades have been introduced into the Technical Education Curriculum, adding that government has launched community-based skills training for artisans across the state, aimed at elevating skills levels, improving training quality, and empowering local professionals.
He noted that for innovation and technological advancement, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) have been integrated into the Secondary Schools Curriculum, revealing that to accomplish this goal, 750 STEM Educators have been trained, provisions of laptops, deployment of smart classroom equipment and smart televisions have been done to facilitate sound lesson delivery.
