The 1996 Alumni set of Ijaye Ojokoro High School, Alagbado, Lagos, have promised to provide free sanitary pads, every month, to female students in the school.
Mr Christopher Okhumale , the newly elected President of the association, made the promise while delivering his acceptance speech during the 25th ( 1996-2021) Silver Jubilee celebration of the association in Abule Egba, Lagos.
Okhumale explained that education remained the bedrock of any developed nation, saying that it was important to give back to alma mater.
The president stated that the association’s gesture of giving out sanitary pad monthly to female students in the school was to contribute its quota in supporting the Girl Child.
He also added that plans were underway to set up Information Communication Technology (ICT) studio in the school, saying that the world had since moved from analogue to digital, hence, the need to support the students.
“We will see how we can set up this ICT in the school, we will be partnering with corporate organisations and Non Governmental Organisation (NGO). We will also support the school with furniture,” he said.
Okhumale opined that the welfare of members of the association would also be utmost priority of the new executives, adding that they would continue where the last executives stopped.
The President explained that the new executives would set up Economic and Investment Committee whose duties were to advise on how to generate fund, how to support and empower members.
He listed members of the committee to include messers Peter Dirisu, Segun Ogunremi, Segun Olayinka and Eniola Ajide.
“In the area of empowerment, they will be looking at trainings and capacity development.
“They will also be looking at creating a trust fund to support members of the association and for establishment of the trust fund, we will be opening it up with the sum of N500,000,” he said.
Okhumale assured the members that the newly inaugurated executives would work in unity and for the progress of the association.
Earlier, Chief Kazeem Bisiriyu, immediate past Vice President (2), while reeling out the achievement of the past executives, noted that they were able to renovate the school principal’s office , donated generating set and also offset hospital bills of some members.
Also, immediate past President, Dr. Seyi Kayode, in his speech, appreciated the members for the love and support rendered to his team during there two years tenure.
In the speech, read by Mrs Temitope Akinboh , Vice President (1), Kayode urged members to give maximum support to the new executives.
