Abeokuta-North Local Government, Ogun State has written a letter to the Gov. Dapo Abiodun, appealing for urgent rehabilitation of Elega road.
The councilor said that the road network linking from Elega junction towards Elega Housing Estate was in a deplorable condition.
He appealed to Abiodun to give the road utmost priority and immediate consideration , saying that it remained one of the worst road in Oke Ona land.
The legislator also maintained that the bridges around the axis such as Arakanga bridge, Elega Housing bridge via Eco gas needed urgent reconstruction to avoid collapse.
“May I respectfully refer Your Excellency’s kind attention to the above subject and inform you that the road network linking from Elega junction towards Elega Housing Estate is in a deplorable and ramshackle condition, hence, the need for its rehabilitation as parts of Your Excellency’s agenda of Building Our Future Together.
“Sir, it has become imperative to state that this road is the economy pace setter of Abeokuta North Local Government which accommodates not less than Twenty-Two (22) Hospitals (Private & Public). The road network links to a big market at its junction which attracts other good people from different Local Government Areas of the State for business transaction on daily basis.
“The LGA houses not less than One Hundred (100) religious institutions (Churches, Mosques & Ogboni Shrines) which assists the State Government to preach morals and curb the rate of social vices in the community.
” Your Excellency Sir, there are numerous numbers of artisans, traders and professionals shops/outlets situated in the axis such as Hairdressing Salons, Barbing Salons, Plumbing workshops, mechanic workshops e.t.c around the axis who pays regular taxes for both State and Local Governments which contribute to the persistent increase in the State Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
” It has become necessary to inform Your Excellency that the road links to Elega Housing Estate which accommodates well-meaning Ogun indigenes (Professors, Civil Servants, Serving and Retired Permanent Secretaries, Head of Services, Directors e.t.c).The Estate equally accommodates the Serving Senator who currently represents Ogun Central Senatorial District at the Upper Chamber (House of Senate), Senator. Afolabi Salisu.
” The Elega road network is an economic hub of the Abeokuta-North Local Government as it encompasses greater business transaction which fetch numerous revenue to both State and Local Governments.
“There are more than 20 Hotel & Suites domicile in Elega axis, which also includes but not limited to 1st Point Hotel & Suites owned by the Ekerin of Oke-Ona Land with employment of over 20 staff who are indigenes of the State who were paid monthly by the company and equally remit taxes to the State Government. Other notable hotels are Kim Hotel & Suits, B&D Hotel among others who equally contribute significantly to the growth and development of the State by engaging unemployed graduates and able youths into their recreation/relaxation centres and thereby reducing unemployment rate in our dear State. The Hotel attracts foreign investors and dignitaries from different States of the Federation.
” Permit me to inform Your Excellency Sir that the Elega road equally houses three (3) filling Stations which remit their taxes to the Government as appropriate. One of the filling station, Sureebe Oil is owned by a foremost and prominent indigene who was conferred with a chieftaincy tittle of Bada of Oke-Ona Land with over 30 staff who were paid monthly by the company and equally remit taxes to the State Government. Also, another filling station, Sambad Oil is owned by a notable indigene who was also conferred with a chieftaincy tittle of Jagunna of Oke-Ona Land with over 40 staff who were paid monthly by the company and equally remit taxes to the State Government.
” It has become imperative to inform Your Excellency that Elega axis has been one of the worst and dilapidated road in Oke-Ona land of our present day which should be given utmost priority and immediate consideration. Furthermore, the bridges around the axis such Arakanga bridge, Elega Housing bridge via Eco gas needed urgent reconstruction to avoid collapse.
” It is of note to state that the Elega road accommodates highest number of Cab Drivers, Truck Drivers who dwells and park their vehicles in parking space in the axis. The significant numbers of vehicles plying the road on daily basis cannot be quantified. Also, there were various notable truck/mechanic Engineers who has workshops and receives a huge number of customers on daily basis.
” Your Excellency Sir, premise on the above, may I humbly request your kind consideration and approval for the followings:
“The rehabilitation of Elega junction towards Elega Housing Estate road as the motorway would continue to engender more business investment and equally draw the State more revenue through various business channels in line with ISEYA mantra of the State Government.
“The reconstruction of bridges around Elega axis such Arakanga bridge and Elega Housing bridge which required urgent attention to avoid collapse.
