Ogun State government has approved the allocation of some housing units from its affordable housing programme located in Itanrin, Ijebu-Ode, to affected residents of Igbegba Housing estate, whose houses were recently demolished, to pave way for the urban regeneration programme of the present administration.
The General Manager, Ogun State Housing Corporation (OGSHC), Esv. Wale Ojo, made this known during a visit to Igbeba Housing estate, describing the demolition exercise as innovative development that would transform the estate to meet current reality.
Ojo explained that residents of the estate were given four months’ notice prior to the demolition, as mortgages had been extended to them at a discounted interest rate, affirming that some residents had also keyed into the affordable housing programme of the state government.
“The state government is aware of the present economy of the country and, as a result, has made it mandatory to find succour for the residents of the estate by giving them relief measures, including the opportunity to key into the affordable housing scheme, as well as the avenue to access loans”, he said.
Responding, one of the affected residents, Mr. Akeem Rasheed, appreciated the state government for the provision of houses in Itaarin estate, imploring OGSHC to ensure that the relief measures were delivered in record time.
