Hoodlums suspected to be members of rival political parties have disrupted the governorship election petition tribunal as it began sitting on Monday in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
Despite tight security measures, the hoodlums laid siege to the entrance of the court in the Isabo area of the state capital. Officers of the various security agencies used their vehicles to block the roads leading to the court to keep them at bay.
The tribunal was set up after Ladi Adebutu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) filed a petition challenging the election victory of Governor Dapo Abiodun of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The hoodlums, some wearing yellow caps resembling that worn by Abiodun’s supporters during campaigns, were armed with canes. The police ignored the thugs but denied journalists access to the court premises.
