An Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court on Thursday sentenced a 20-year-old man, Ismaila Ahmed, to three years imprisonment for stealing two block moulding machines.

Ahmed, whose address was not provided, was convicted on a one count charge of stealing.

The Magistrate, Mrs Olajumoke Somefun, sentenced the convict after he pleaded guilty to the charge.

Somefun, however, sentenced the defendant to three years imprisonment with an option of N150, 000 fine.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, ASP Olakunle Shonibare, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Jan. 20 at about 9:00 at Oke -Ata Area in Abeokuta.

Shonibare said that Ahmed conspired with others now at large to steal two moulding block machines from the complainant’s compound.

He said the convict, a scavenger, entered into the compound of one Mr Mutairu Kabiawu and stole two block moulding machines valued at N115,000.

Shonibare explained that while the convict was on his way with the machines, one of the complainant’s neighbour saw the machines with him and stopped him for interrogation.

He said upon interrogation the convict could not give a satisfactory account of how the machines were in his possession, which led to his arrest.

The prosecutor, however, said the offence committed contravened sections 516, 412, and 390(9) of the criminal code laws of Ogun 2006.
