The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun state has assured that it would create a level playing field for all aspirants in the state seeking to clinch the ticket of the party for the 2023 polls.
Sikirulai Ogundele, the state Chairman of the party, gave assurance at the official declaration of Chief Jimi Lawal for the 2023 gubernatorial race on the platform of the party.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Lawal has, therefore, joined Chief Ladi Adebutu, Prof. David Bamgbose and Mr Segun Sowunmi in the race for the PDP governorship ticket in Ogun.
Ogundele stated that the party would not hinder any eligible member from aspiring or contesting for any political office under its platform, adding that it would be fair to all
We thank God for the peace that we now enjoy in our party after the reconciliation and we will be transparent and fair in the selection of the party’s flagbearers for the various political offices,” he said.
The chairman also dismissed allegations that the party had been pocketed and hijacked by moneybags.
“Let me allay your fears over misconceptions and wrong judgement concerning the party’s activities in Ogun.
“The party is for all of us and nobody has pocketed it
“I, as the Chairman, will never say, do or be party to anything that will destroy the PDP in Ogun,” he said.
Ogundele, however, urged all the party chieftains and members to support aspirants who might eventually emerge as the party’s candidates from its primary elections.
Mr Dayo Ogungbenro, PDP Chairman in Oyo State, urged the party members to ensure that the PDP regained power in Ogun in order to lift the state to an enviable height.
He stated that Oyo State had been transformed since Gov. Seyi Makinde became the governor of the state under the platform of the PDP.
Lawal, in his address, expressed readiness to turn the fortune of the state around if voted into power.
The aspirant said that he would use the state’s commonwealth to create even development in the state.
While unveiling his five- point agenda, the aspirant explained that his vision would centre around economic growth, human capital development, infrastructure, security and good governance. (NAN)
