Over 500 indigent citizens of the state have again benefitted from the yearly free medical outreach strategically coordinated by the Pet Project of the First Lady of Ogun State, Ajose Foundation in collaboration with some US Based Medical Specialists in OOUTH, Sagamu and Ayepe Ijebu.
According to Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, the objective of the yearly medical intervention was to bring succour to citizens who had been scheduled for surgeries but could not afford bills for medical procedures and medications.
Mrs. Abiodun reiterated her unflinching commitment to the yearly outreach which she explained, as giving back to the society on the part of the Ogun state born doctors who were residents in the US.
The team lead, Dr. Musbau Kasumu, an indigene of Ijebu Ayepe said he and his siblings were inspired to give back to the society by supporting government in helping the less privileged as a way of appreciating and remembering their humble beginnings, explaining that they had their basic education in Ogun state.
He said the team who were on a 7 day mission comprised of various medical specialists that include anaesthetists, surgeons, generalists, dentists, acupuncturist, opthalmologists and gynaecologists and obstetrics among others worked 7am to 7pm every day noting that it would continue for seven days.
Dr. Kasumu said the mission had continued to enlarge by the year explaining that they had drawn more doctors from other foreign countries which include Ukraine, UK, Canada and Australia among others to the team for this year’s intervention.
Dr. Bimpe Adenusi, head anaesthetist in the team appreciated staff of the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu under the leadership of the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Bunmi Fatungase where served as facility for surgeries for their cooperation.
She lauded the support and commitment of Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun who she said had been the backbone of the medical intervention noting that she had purchased several equipments among which is a multi million naira digital multifunction machine that could locate veins in the body as well as scan that had just been procured.
Dr. Adenusi added that medical tests which include Eye, Diabetes, Malaria tests, screening for different diseases and treatment were also ongoing at Aiyepe central mosque for the benefit of the people within and around the community.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Kate Ikepe who had undergone a successful fibroid procedure while appreciating Mrs. Abiodun and the medical team for the free surgery and medications said a private hospital had billed her over five hundred thousand naira for the surgery which she could not afford since two years.
