The Osun State Amotekun Corps on Thursday was honoured with the best-performing security outfit in the Southwest.
The corps also received the Most Ethically Security Outfit in Nigeria and Corporate Ethics and Integrity Compliance Award by the Centre for Ethics and Self Value Orientation, Non-Governmental Organization(NGO), in Osogbo.
The NGO also honored the Corps Commander of Osun Amotekun Corps, Brig. Gen. Bashir Adewinmbi with the Ethical Conduct and Leadership Compliance Award.
“He was decorated with the Integrity Icon of Nigeria (I.I.O.N) and Enlisted amongst the top 10 winners of the most ethically responsible, corrupt free head of state security outfits award recipients 2023.
“The Osun Amotwkun Field Commander, Commander Olusoji Akanni, was honored with the Loyalty and Ethical in Public Service Award.”
Speaking during the presentation, the Executive Director of the Centre for Ethics and Self Value Orientation, Ethicist (Prince) Salih Musa Yakubu, applauds the Osun Amotekun Corps for their efforts in securing the lives and property of the people of Osun State.
He commend the tenacity and zeal of the leadership of the corps in the state on their achievement despite the paucity of funds.
He ranked Amotekun as the Second Position in Security Performance in the South West and the Most Ethically Security Outfit in Nigeria for strategically curbing crimes in the state.
He also asserted that the Osun Amotekun Commander, was honoured for his dedication to ethical standards, emotional intelligence, time management culture, volunteerism, Integrity, administrative efficiency, creativity innovative leadership in Nigeria’s Security sector, corps visibility, community security, and staff welfare discipline.
He reiterated the commitment of his organisation to partner with Amotekun and other security outfits in making Nigeria a corruption-free country.
He urged the Osun Amotekun not to relent in securing the lives and property of the residents of the state.
In his response, Osun Amotekun Commander, Brig. Gen. Bashir Adewinmbi, appreciates the Centre for recognising the Osun Amotekun Corps as the Most ethical security Outfit in Nigeria, also for the awards presented to him and his Field Commander,l.
Adewinmbi reiterates the commitment of Amotekun to partner with any organisation(s) willing to support and work with the corps in securing the state against marauders and criminal elements.
“We need to take action to solve Nigeria’s problem and we can act through normal channels, not violence.” he said
He admonished the NGO to meet with people in charge of security to extend the crusade to other geo-political zone that has not established state security outfits.
Adewinmbi called on Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu to establish Amotekun in Lagos State to curb crime in the state.
