A former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has urged residents of Ogun State to adhere strictly to planning permit approvals and stage-to-stage certifications of the regulatory bodies of government.
Chief Obasanjo said the citizenry should complement the present government’s effort in achieving its mission towards ensuring safety of the people and curtailing incidences of building collapse.
The former president stated this while receiving a building authorisation document for his commercial building project, Olumo Court from the Ogun State Building Production Management Authority in Ibara Housing Estate, Abeokuta.
Obasanjo noted that most incidences of building collapse could be avoided if the provisions of the law and specifications in the permits are followed.
“To ensure that the job done at my project site conforms with government’s regulations, the contractors on site were made to comply strictly to specifications in the permits obtained”, he said.
Earlier in his presentation, Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, TPL. Olatunji Odunlami appreciated the former President for serving as a good example for the citizenry to emulate, saying building rights offers benefits to society in the long run.
Odunlami further stated that Chief Obasanjo is a friend of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, who ensures that developers and contractors on his projects, operate within the boundaries of the law.
According to TPL. Odunlami, “For the former President to submit his project to regulatory processes, including obtaining planning permit and building authorisation, it is worthy of emulation”.
