The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chieftain , Otunba Segun Showunmi has said that the former President Olusegun Obasanjo could not be ignored in Nigeria politics.
Highlighting the relevance of Obasanjo, Senator Ibikunle Amosun in the politics of Egbaland, he said that any politician in Egba land that ignored the former President would have himself or herself to blame.
He stated this on Tuesday at his country home while receiving the Labour Party House of Representatives Aspirant in the 2023 election, Hon. Tolu Phillips.
Phillips’ had requested that Showunmi avail him the opportunity to discuss his political intentions and how to navigate the political terrain of Abeokuta South under the PDP.
Showunmi while receiving Hon. Tolulope and his entourage gave an historical relevance of Phillips family to the development of Egba land and that it was on that foundation that other Egba elites built on.
Phillips had joined the PDP during the last election as a result of the legal battle in the Labour Party, which impeded his chances to clinching the party’s ticket.
As he welcomed him officially to the PDP , Showunmi said that he had high hope in Phillips , saying if given the opportunity to represent the people , he would do well because of his gift of oration and brilliance.
He assured the young politician that the political terrain of Abeokuta South although had its peculiarity but could be well navigated if there was proper guidance and mentorship.
The Owagbemisoye of Idoani, in his leadership counsel admonished his guest to avoid political mistake which might cost him his aspiration now or in the future.
He cautioned Phillips on needless spendings as political sycophants were only interested in money politics.
Responding, Phillips thanked Showunmi for providing leadership support to him at this critical time of his political career, believing that with God and Showunmi by his side his political boat would not capsize in the political murky water of Abeokuta South local government.
He promised to always contact Showunmi as he proceeded on his political vogage
