The executives of the National Association of Nigeria Students, (NANS) drawn from the six geopolitical zones, led by its Chairman, Zonal Coordinator of NANS Forum, Comrade Anzaku Shedrack, has conferred an Award of Excellence on the NYSC Director of Corps Welfare and Health Services, Omotade Ayodele Folorunso Benjamin.
The award conferment which took place at the Merit House Auditorium, Aguiyi Ironsi street, Maitama, Abuja at the end of two-day intensive in-house capacity training program organiser by Corps Welfare and Health Services Department of NYSC.
Conferring the award, the NANS Chief, said, “ we have come to honour a deserving icon who has demonstrated capacity and commitment in public service, especially in youth and national development”
“When nominations of many Nigerians were received and submitted to the NANS, nominees’ contributions were subjected to rigorous screening and shortlisting in many stages.
“At every stage, the name, Omotade, keeps topping the list. The final selection, was made easier as a result of enviable records of contributions to youth development by this committed Nigerian, especially in the last eight years of his career from when he was appointed State Coordinator of the NYSC in Delta State.
“We came to a conclusion that rather than give our Awards to money bags and politicians, it is better we recognize Technocrats, who have made meaningful contributions and have done well for youths and our Country.
“We have followed a trajectory of your public service career and found you to be a man of steel in integrity and hardwork.
“You have done well for youths and our Country and we believe you will continue to do well. Rest assured that if we observe that you deviate from doing well, the same way we have mobilized to confer this award, we will mobilize Nigerian Students in their numbers to come and inform you that you haven’t done well in this regard.
“However, given your enviable track records of performance and integrity, we are convinced you would continue to excel”, he prayed.
Responding, Omotade appreciated the National Students body for finding him deserving of this rare recognition, especially, coming up early into the New Year.
Omotade said that “Whatever we have done and we are doing, l believe l am carrying out my sacred duties and responsibilities as permitted by God because He alone, is the Enabler of all things.
“This Award and numerous others received, I am already carrying a burden to continue to contribute my quota more to youth development as well as strive to ensure that, sincere and young people of integrity, are accorded their rightful places in governance and administration of our Country” he said.
He however dedicated the Award to God, all Nigerian Youths, Women and all Staff of the NYSC Scheme nationwide, whom he said, have worked and are still working tirelessly as a team to mentor corps members.
Highlights of the occasion were award presentation and taking of photographs.
