Irete – Ijebu AACDC gives scholarships to students

As part of its developmental stride towards ensuring that Irete-Ijebu in both human capacity and infrastructure is develop, the Anowoneyo Area Community Development Committee (AACDC) has given scholarship awards to secondary school students that are indigenes of the town.

The scholarship awards which took place at the palace of Onirete of Irete-Ijebu, Oba Dr. AbdulGaniu Olusegun Awokoya-Yesufu according to the Chairman of the AACDC, Otunba Saheed Dosumu was mainly for students in Senior Secondary School 3 (SSS 3) schooling in the town.

Speaking during the event, Oba Awokoya-Yesufu who appreciated members of the Community Development Committee for their developmental stride in the town, pointed out that the contributions of the committee to the socio-economic development of the area was fast yielding positive result as the town is now wearing new look especially in the area of infrastructural development.

The monarch enjoined beneficiaries of the scholarship award to dedicate more to their studies and always see themselves as ambassadors of Irete.

According to him, “I want to thank members of the Anowoneyo Area Development Committee for their efforts so far. Your efforts towards the development of Irete is one major thing that I so much appreciated. You are doing well because your efforts is fast yielding positive result.

“I congratulate our students that are beneficiaries of today’s scholarship awards. I want to implore you to take your studies more serious and at all times see yourselves as ambassadors of Irete-Ijebu”.

Advising citizens of the town to always be their brothers’ keeper and love one another, Oba Awokoya-Yesufu urged the students and other citizens of the town, home and abroad to always give back to their community.

On his own, the AACDC Chairman, Otunba Saheed Dosumu implored the awardees to be very focus and concentrate more to their studies, stating that with hard work, the sky would be their limit.

Otunba Dosumu said that the scholarship awards was organized to encourage not only the beneficiaries but, all indigenes of the town that are students across all academic levels throughout the country.

The Chairman who pointed out that the scholarship award programme would be an annual event, posited that a committee has been set up with main assignment to monitor and guide the awardees beyond secondary school, pointing out that those with starling moral and academic performance would be sponsored up to university level.

Also speaking at the event, one of the AACDC invited guest, Barrister Sikiru Okuribido while advising the beneficiaries of the scholarship award to take advantage of its and be very serious at their studies, implored them to determine to be successful in their academic and attain greater height in life.

Barr. Okuribido urged parents of the awardees to always encourage their children and pray for them at all times.

Appreciating the kind gesture, one of the scholarship awards beneficiaries, Miss Modupe Shittu while speaking on behalf of the awardees, thanked Oba Awokoya-Yesufu and AACDC members for the scholarship awards bestowed on them with a promised that they would not disappoint the monarch and the entire people of Irete-Ijebu as a whole.

A parents who spoke on behalf of the awardees’ parents, Mrs Tinuke Adekoya, appreciating the organizers of the scholarship event, said that the gesture was a relief and assurance that their children too could get to height of their academic career, praying that God should grant the monarch long life with sound health along side wisdom and knowledge needed to continue to lead the people of the town right.

At the end of the event, each student were adopted by well meaning personalities for mentoring; among such people were Otunba Saheed Dosumu, Justice Tayo Lamina, Elder Lateef Adegbesan, Barr. Sikiru Okuribido, Dr. Salau Gbabere and Missioner Nooroudeen Jubril.
