The National President of Motorcycles Operators Union of Nigeria (MOUN), Sotayo Olusola Rasak, popularly known as Sholebo has urged Nigerians, particularly the youth not to participate in the planned nationwide protest against hunger, hardship and bad governance.
Sholebo who made the appeal in a statement in Abeokuta, Ogun State on Wednesday, also called on the organisers of the planned protest to embrace dialogue with the government in addressing their demands rather than engaging in protest.
The MOUN boss expressed worries that the protest may be hacked by criminal elements to cause chaos and worsen the security challenges in the country.
He urged Nigerians to be more patient with the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration in implementing his Renewed Hope agenda.
“We acknowledge the current challenges our nation is facing, including hunger, economic hardship, and concerns about governance. We understand the frustration and the urge to voice these concerns through protests. However, we urge our youths to reconsider taking to the streets for nationwide protests.
“While peaceful protests are a democratic right, the potential for such demonstrations to escalate into violence and cause further disruption is high.
“We have seen how protests can sometimes lead to damage to public and private property, injuries, and even loss of lives. These outcomes can exacerbate the very hardships we are all trying to address.
“Our union strongly believes in the power of constructive dialogue and engagement with the relevant authorities. We are committed to working alongside our government to find sustainable solutions to these pressing issues. We encourage our youths to channel their energy and creativity into initiatives that can drive positive change within our communities.
“We urge the government to listen to the cries of its citizens and take immediate, concrete steps to address the issues of hunger, economic hardship, and governance. It is only through mutual cooperation, understanding, and concerted efforts that we can overcome these challenges and build a better future for all.
“To the youths of our nation, we ask for your patience and understanding. Let us come together to seek peaceful and effective ways to bring about the changes we desire. Our unity and collective efforts will pave the way for a brighter tomorrow.
