The Federal Ministry of Education, and allied agencies in Southwest West states of the country, have commended the digital education initiative of Ogun State government.
The commendation was brought to the fore in Abeokuta, during an understudy visit by the representativs of Ministries of Education in Lagos, Osun, Oyo, Ondo and Ekiti states, facilitated by Developmental Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) Commission in collaboration with Plane International Intervention.
Speaking, a Senior Education Officer, Nigeria Education Management Information System, Federal Ministry of Education, Mr. Adewale Adesanya, while evaluating the state technological innovation, tagged, Ogun State Revitalisation Agenda (OGSERA) through its Digital Platform for Education Revitalisation (DiPER),
described both as worthwhile initiative that was capable of advancing the education sector.
Mr. Adesanya applauded the state government for a well-thought, effective and all encompassing platform, enjoining other states to replicate the digital initiative.
Also speaking, Head of Programmes, DAWN Commission, Mr. Abiodun Oladipo, expressed delight for the home grown solution as it touches all aspects of education sector, promising that the Commission would advocate for its adoption by other states, to further take education sector to a higher pedestal.
On his part, Education Quality Specialist and Consultant for DAWN Commission, Mr. Adeyemi Adebayo, said the initiative was a good development to the entire Africa, saying, “in my own assessment, it is a very good thing, I hope that every other states in the southwest will also key into it and develop their own, OGSERA here , it could be OYOSERA in Oyo State, LASERA in Lagos or whatever name they choose to give it, it is the way to go”.
In their separate remarks, Director Education Management Information System (EMIS), Ondo State, Mr. Folajimi Akinjagunla, Technical Lead, Governance of Non-State System, Dr. James Fadokun and Head of EMIS Unit, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education Lagos State, Mrs. Toyin Ajayi and Mr. Olumide Olore from Ekiti State EMIS Unit, said the innovation had made data collection and management easy,appreciating the Ogun State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology for the visit.
In his presentation, Commissioner in the Ministry, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, said a lot of remarkable achievements had been recorded since the adoption of various technological transformation, such as efficiency in data gathering, collation and analysis, transfer process, screening of learners into the State Flagship Secondary Schools, among others.
According to the Press officer, Samuel Ogungbesan, He noted that, “through the digital platform, issue of examination malpractices at all levels have been tackled headlong and reduced to the bearest minimum, while insecurity, indiscipline and truancy in schools have become things of the past since the introduction of the system by the present administration in the state”.
Prof. Arigbabu, who was optimistic about the technological advancement, stated that,”the digital platform if adopted can profer solutions to different problem without struggle. As he advised the delegates to relate their experience with the OGSERA and its DIiPER, as initiatives that will transform their education sector”.
