The University of Brazil, Campinas, in collaboration with the Institute of Strategic Managers, Ghana, on Saturday conferred some eminent Nigerians with the award of Honorary Doctorate Degree.
The award was held at the Centre for Management Development, Magodo, Lagos.
The recipients are; Are Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, Oba Abdulfatai Aromire, Ojora of Ijora, Mr Kayode Adeshina, Mr Olusegun Akande, Mrs Abidemi Adebiyi, Oba Francis Alao and Dr Mohammed Koguna.
Others include Kolawole Peregrino, Mr Oloyede Al-Maroof, Mr Isaac Olaseni, Mr Musilu Ishola-Bello, Mr Bola Sobo, Adebayo Kolawole, Mr Olaitan Ogidan, Mr Olayinka Adepoju, Mr Larry Ayodeji and Mr Adedeji Sunday.
Also, Dr Jackie Kazeem, Mr Segun Folorunso, Mr Akanni Ewusi, Engr Andrew Oru and Mr Abiodun Rotimi, received the award.
Dr Adebiyi Adeshina and Mr Kayode Adeshina were bestowed with the award of grand patron.
The guest speaker, Dr Gabriel Sosanya from Arden University London, advised the awardees to be aware of the honour bestowed on them.
“Honoris Causa, is an honour without much noise. The recipients should show simplicity and humility. “In Simplicity lies greatness.
The award is not something the recipient should go about saying they have a doctorate degree.
“Although the award is known and recognised by the academic society, it is only based on the recipient’s contributions to the society and their track records.
“The award is not an academic achievement. It is based on impact, recognition of contributions in various fields of endeavour,” he said.
Also, Prof. Abba Micheal, a representative of Prof. Nwadike of University of Brazil, said that the purpose of the award was to honour distinguished Nigerians.
“The recipients got the awards not because they are the most important people in the society. This is a medium to commend them.
“It is a token for their hard work and commitment to the society. The university also want to make their presence known in Nigeria.
“The University of Brazil in Campina, expect the awardees to be its ambassadors,” Nwadike said.
The professor expressed his concern on the cliche about education been a scam.
According to him, such opinion is purely a misconception.
“In clear terms, I can say that education is not a scam, but the practice of the type of education makes it look undesirable.
“We should make our education to suit what is obtainable in our society,” he advised.
Dr Larry Ayodeji, the Executive Director of Strategic Management, Ghana, said that the awardees were carefully chosen based on their impeccable contributions to the society.
“We have a stringent criteria we use in choosing the recipients and they are worthy individuals in every sphere of life,” Ayodeji said.
One of the awardees, Mrs Abidemi Adebiyi, said she was honoured to be part of the recipients.
“The lecture about accepting the award with humility, is an eye opener to me,” she said.
Dr Adeolu Adesina, another recipient, urged government to give more priority to the education sector.
