Drycleaner jailed 8 months for stealing binding wires

A Dei-dei Grade I Area Court sentenced a 24-year-old dry cleaner, Obadiah Daniel to eight months imprisonment for stealing eight rolls of binding wires.

Daniel of Gwarinpa, Abuja was convicted and sentenced after pleading guilty to joint act, criminal trespass and theft.

The Judge, Mr Sulyman Ola, gave him an option to pay a fine of N40, 000 and ordered him to pay the complainant ,Onwu Stephen N30, 000 compensation.

Ola said if Daniel failed to pay compensation, he would serve additional one month imprisonment.

He however warned him to desist from committing crimes and be of good behaviour.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Chinedu Ogada told the court that the complainant, reported the matter at the Gwarinpa Police Station on Sept.27.

Ogada said Daniel criminally trespassed into Jayze Home’s Limited, Gwarinpa, with one Felix at large and stole eight rolls of binding wires valued N120, 000.

The prosecution counsel said the offence, contravened the provisions of section 79, 349 and 288 of the Penal Code.
