The police command in Ogun says it has arrested a 23-year-old boy, James Ikenna,
for allegedly raping and killing 29 -year- old neighbour Oluwatosin Adefisayo, a graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University.
DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the State Police Public Relations Officer, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Thursday.
According to the statement, the suspect along with his friend, now at large, broke into the apartment of the deceased at night through the ceiling while she was fast asleep, raped her before strangling her to death.
Oyeyemi explained that neighbours including the parents of the suspect woke up in the morning only to discover that the apartment of the deceased had been broken into.
He stated that they immediately invited the local vigilante to the scene, and while at the scene, Ikenna was seen coming down from the ceiling where he had been hiding after the dastardly act.
“He was quickly held while distress call was made to the police at Ogijo Divisional Headquarters.
” The Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Ogijo Division, CSP Onatufeh Umoh, quickly led his men to the scene and got the suspect arrested.
“On interrogation, the suspect whose partner in crime has ran away confessed to the commission of the crime.
” He also informed the police that they decided to kill the victim after raping her because they discovered that she recognised them.
The PPRO claimed that the parents of the suspect described his arrest has good riddance to bad rubbish, saying that they said they already gave up on him.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation.
He also directed that his accomplice must be hunted for and brought to book.
