In a bid to ensure that Ogun is free of drugs and drug dealers, the troops of 35 Artillery Brigade, Alamala, Abeokuta have foiled an attempt to smuggle 206.5 kilograms of substance suspected to be cannabis sativa into the State.
This is contained in a statement in Abeokuta on Friday by Capt. Idereghi Akari, Assistant Director Army Public Relations 35 Artillery Brigade.
According to the statement, the troops were deployed along Balogun road in Yewa North Local Government Area of the State.
Akari noted that the troops intercepted the consignment of illegal substance suspected to be cannabis sativa at a cross point along Shuwan Igbogila general area on March 5 2025.
He explained that the drug syndicate on sighting the troops abandoned their vehicle and ran into the nearby bush.
” The interception is in line with the Brigade’s resolve to eradicate trans – border drugs and contraband movement into the country through the porous borders by high profile drug syndicate and smugglers.
” The recovered cannabis sativa have been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Ogun State Command,” he said.
Akari added that the Commander 35 Artillery Brigade, Brig.-General Godwin Nwamba commended the troops for their effort.
He charged them to always be vigilant on the roads in order to frustrate the smuggling of hard drugs into the country through the porous borders.
