The Director General, Ifo Local Government Campaign Council of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, Hon. Adijat Adeleye, has condemned the renewed spate of violent attacks on supporters of the APC by some members of the opposition party at Akute, in the Ifo Local Government Area.
Adeleye gave the condemnation following the recent attacks by suspected thugs of an opposition party on the directive of one of its Chieftains, who has been causing civil unrest in the area and unleashed mayhem on the APC supporters yesterday while they had their peaceful campaign train passing bye the bridge in Akute.
According to her, “I found it very unreasonable for a person to see politics as a do or die affair. This is pure politics; those who should engage in politics must do that by principles. You can’t coerce the people to change their minds, they have since embraced inclusiveness against the politics of segregation”
“Let it be on record that I personally led the well- coordinated campaign train of the progressives in my area yesterday when I heard of the attack on the bus conveying some party faithfuls. Why must they allow their bitter politics place Akute in the bad light at a time when the facilitation of infrastructure was our target as progressives? The voters are wise, they know those whose actions were meant to turn the area into boiling point with a view to causing voter apathy tomorrow.
“The Campaign Council remain unshaken in its resolution to appeal to our teaming members to remain calm in the face of the waves of attack.
We hereby call on the Security Agencies once again to swing into action immediately to arrest those who are known to be behind the recent violence, bring them to book and dissuade further unwarranted attack on law-abiding APC members in Akute/Ajuwon and Ifo as a whole”, she submitted.
