Five persons were confirmed dead while 12 others sustained injuries in an accident on Tuesday on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
The accident which occurred few meters after Foursquare on the highway involved a Mazda bus with registration number, SMK 685 YG and a truck marked, ZE 121 0G.
The Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), in Ogun, Mrs Florence Okpe, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Abeokuta on Tuesday.
According to Okpe, the accident was caused by the driver of the Mazda bus who lost control of the wheels while sleeping.
“A total of 18 people, comprising of 10 men and eight women were involved in the accident. 12 people were injured and unfortunately five persons were recorded death from the crash.
“The suspected cause of the fatal crash was fatigue which led to loss of control because the driver slept off on the wheels and rammed into a moving truck,” she said.
The FRSC spokesperson added that the injured victims were taken to Victory Hospital, Ogere while the corpses were deposited at FOS Morgue Ipara.
