3 die as car plunges into river in Ogun

Three persons were confirmed dead while one other sustained injuries when a Toyota sienna car plunged into Omo river around Area J4 on the Ijebu Ode-Benin expressway.

Mrs Florence Okpe, the Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Abeokuta on Saturday.

Okpe noted that the accident occured at 11:55am , saying that the suspected cause of the crash was excessive speed and loss of control which led the vehicle to plunging into the river.

She said that the vehicle marked APP 830 HX was coming from Benin heading to Lagos.

She added that three male adult were found dead while one person sustained injuries in the lone accident.

The FRSC spokesperson explained that the injured victim was taken to Hope Clinic J4 in Ijebu East local government area of Ogun state while the deceased were deposited at the state General Hospital morgue , Ijebu-ode

She stated that the state Sector Commander , Anthony Uga , described the crash as avoidable if caution was considered.

The sector commander reiterated on speed violation among motorists especially the commercial vehicles on that route
following road traffic crashes data.

Okpe noted that the FRSC boss appreciated the effort of the local divers for the rescue operation and also sympathised with the family of the victims, advising them to contact FRSC Ogbere out post for more information about the crash.
