The All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, secured a major boost on Sunday as prominent Yoruba leaders endorsed his candidacy for the 2023 elections.
The endorsement took place in Akure at an interactive meeting of Yoruba Leadership under the aegis of Conference of Yoruba Nationals.
The well-attended meeting, which was facilitated by former Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, Abagun Kole Omololu, Chief Dare Babarinsa, Mr Fola Adeola and Mr Tunde Lemo, among other distinguished personalities, was graced by stakeholders from Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Kwara and Kogi States.
At the event, leader of the Pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, prayed for Tinubu’s victory in next year’s poll.
Those in attendance included former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Olu Falae, former Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Alani Akinrinade (retd), Major Gen. Olu Bajowa (retd), former Osun State Governor, Chief Bisi Akande, former Kwara State Governor, Chief Cornelius Adebayo, former Minister, Chief Rufus Arogbofa, and former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Chief Iyiola Omisore.
Also present were the Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji, Deputy Governors of Oyo and Ondo States, Bayo Lawal and Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and former Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Prince Segun Adesegun, who stood in for ex-governor Chief Segun Osoba.
Other dignitaries included former ministers Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, Senator Dayo Adeyeye, Prof. Isaac Adewoye and Prince Ademola Adegoroye.
The APC presidential candidate had visited Akure to present his 80-page Action Plan document christened “Renewed Hope 2023” to the Yoruba leadership.
It will be recalled that the Tinubu manifesto was formally launched in Abuja on October 21 by President Muhammadu Buhari.
