Factional governorship aspirant of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun, Segun Showunmi has advised party members to respect all laws guiding the 2023 general elections.

Showunmi spoke at a workshop organised for all wards party mobilisers and collation agents on Wednesday in Abeokuta.

Showunmi assured PDP members that the election would not give room for over voting, adding that any polling units that witnessed over voting would be cancelled by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“This election is not giving room for over voting. Ensure there is no over voting in your polling units. No one has sent you to manipulate votes.

“You need honesty to manage your polling units. Your duty is to beg people and mobilise people for votes in your areas,” he said.

Showunmi noted that the PDP had always lost against itself because of members’ uncontrollable urge to defend themselves against the opposition.

“PDP has never lost to opposition in Ogun , we have been losing to ourselves. Selfish interest by some set of people has affected the progress of the party in the state,” he said.

Showunmi who said the state PDP governorship case before the Supreme court is delicate and sensitive, expressed optimism that he would win.

He condemned the recent cash crunch and fuel crisis currently witnessed by citizens of the state and country at large.

He appealed to electorates to use their votes to elect candidates that would better their lives, saying that former Vice president, Atiku Abubakar remained the best presidential candidate in the February 25 election.

He appreciated President Mohammadu Buhari for giving the electorates the assurance that their votes would counted through the passage of the new electoral act.
