A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in Ogun State, Prof. David Bamgbose has stepped down from his governorship aspiration and decided to join Ogun West Senatorial seat race in the 2023 general elections.
Bamgbose, who was the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the state during the 2015 general election, had on February 17 declared his intention for the number one seat of the State at an elaborate event.
A close source to the camp of Bamgbose who preferred to speak on the condition of anonymity, said Bamgbose has accepted to join the contest for Ogun West Senatorial seat, currently occupied by Senator Tolu Odebiyi.
The PDP Chieftain, the source said “It is a good sportsmanship for Prof David Bamgbose to decide to step down from a Governorship aspirations to senatorial one. This teaches that political gladiators should not be desperate if the intention is to serve the people”.
He added ” Bamgbose’s actions in this regard is worthy of emulation”.
The source stated “It is sure that the senatorial contest for Ogun west will be highly exciting, Prof David Bamgbose will be a new and exciting entrance into the scene will definitely be expected to over run any APC candidate any day, he is a one time Governorship candidate with experience “.
