An Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court on Friday sentenced a 20-year-old man, Abdulrahmon Mohammed to three months imprisonment for stealing two phones valued N39,000.
Mohammed, whose address was not given, was jailed for conspiracy and theft.
The Magistrate, Mrs O. A. Akamo, said Mohammed was guilty as charged because the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt.
Akamo, therefore, sentenced Mohammed to three month imprisonment or with an option of N20, 000 fine.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Evelyn Motim, told the court that the convict committed the offences on Dec. 25, 2020 in Lafenwa area of Abeokuta.
Motim said the convict and others at large entered into the room of the complainant, Mr Babanjida Aliu and stole an Infinite Hot 7 handset, valued N35, 000, and one Itel phone valued N4, 000.
She added that after Mohammed stole the phones he gave one of the phones to his brother.
She said the convict was caught through the help of phone-tracking device and he was arrested.
She said the offences contravened Sections 516 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Vol. 1, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
