Ogun completes third cycle of broiler’s project, empowers youths with 1,000 day old broilers



Ogun State Government has completed the third cycle of Broiler’s Project where 54 youths were trained and empowered with 1,000 day old broilers, reared and sold to off-takers after six weeks.

Receiving the beneficiaries in his office in Abeokuta, the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun expressed delight at the success of the programme, applauding youths for their forthrightness.

The Governor further listed various government’s intervention programmes for farmers, including the ongoing planting materials palliative for smallholder farmers, presidential fertiliser palliative, Anchor Borrowers’ Programme and the free advisory services through the extension agents.

Commending the 54 graduands for the successful completion of the programme, he said government had made arrangements to replicate the scheme across the 20 Local Government Areas.

“It gives me great joy and deep sense of fulfilment that these youths had a pilot programme of Broiler Project, not only has it turned out very well, but they have successfully carried it out three times over”, the Governor said.

He promised government’s support for the setting up of poultry farm for the youths, assuring that they would also be part of target farmers to undergo training, when the replication kicks- off in other parts of the State.

Introducing the youths to the Governor earlier, Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Adeola Odedina said about 9,000 youths have been registered in poultry business opportunities, based on the success recorded by the 54 young farmers that had reared 54,000 birds to the satisfaction of the off-takers.

He commended their doggedness particularly in learning and character, for raising 1,000 birds each in three cycles with average profit of 150,000 each per cycle.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Ayinde Musa said they believed the Scheme would come out successful, as they were drawn from different Local Government Areas of the State. He appreciated government and staff of the Ministry of Agriculture for enlightening them on poultry business and its various advantages.
