Court remands man over alleged rape of 14-yr-old girl


An Abeokuta chief magistrate court isabo, has remanded a 31 year old man to the correctional centre for allegedly raping a 14 year old girl in Abeokuta.

The suspect Taiwo Alimi was docked on a sole count charge for having unlawful carnal knowledge of the victim which resulted to her getting pregnant.

The police legal officer , Adekunle Opayemi, told the court that the suspect committed the offence in the month of June around 2pm at ijeja area in Abeokuta.

The prosecutor said the suspect raped the girl which resulted to her six weeks and six days pregnancy.

According to the prosecutor , the girl was raped when her mother sent her on an errand , so she met the suspect on the way who gave him a ride on his motocycle and he promised to take her to where the girl’s mother sent her to.

But instead the suspect took her to his house where he had a carnal knowledge and she saw blood rushing from her private part.

The girl later got home to complain of the heavy blood gushing out from her private part to her mother, who later took the girl to the hospital for medical treatment where she was confirmed to be six weeks and six days pregnant.

Counsel  oluwatoyin Omomehin who represented international   Federation of women lawyers, Ogun state chapter (FIDA), appeared on behalf of the victim.

The chief magistrate, I. O Abudu in her ruling, ordered the suspect to be remanded at the correctional centre pending legal advice from the department of public prosecution.

The case was adjourned till November 16 for mention.

The offence was contrary to section 358 of the criminal code laws of Ogun state , 2006.
