Abeokuta, Aug. 10, 2020 (NAN) The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun command has impounded over four articulated vehicles for carrying unlatched container as it began ” Operation Scorpion II”.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the “Operation Scorpion II”
was aimed at arresting articulated vehicles carrying unlatched containers along Lagos – Ibadan expressway.
Speaking to journalists during the operation in Mowe on Lagos -Ibadan expressway , the FRSC Zonal Commanding Officer, RS2.2 , Imoh Etuk, hinted that erring drivers would be charged for dangerous driving and would be made to face the mobile court.
Etuk stated that drivers of the impounded vehicles would be adequately enlightened on ideal driving, saying it was part of the corps statutory duty to ensure sanity among road users.
“The operation which is expected to be on for two weeks is aimed at checkmating erring vehicles, especially articulated trucks along Lagos-Ibadan expressway especially Mowe, Ogere corridors.
“During the exercise, several trucks were impounded for various offences, ranging from unlatched container, bad tyres expired drivers license, lack of number plates among other offence.
” This is the continuation of 2015 Operation Scorpion1, we have been doing series but this one focuses on a special patrol to ensure that drivers that move their goods unlatched, poor tyres are checked and I am pleased with what I am seeing.
“This operation is going to last for two weeks, there is going to be massive enforcement.
“We have done series of dialogues, public enlightenment, consultation with stakeholders. This is the time to bite and we are biting very hard,” he said.
Etuk warned other careless road users to discourage the habit of reckless driving or face the full wrath of the law.
