Mr Yusuf Sheriff, the Majority Leader, Ogun assembly, has donated food items to members of his constituency to cushion the effect of the lockdown occassioned by the Coronavirus pandemic.
Sheriff, speaking with newsmen after the donation, noted that it was important to assist the less privileged in the society especially at the period of COVID -19 lockdown.
The lawmaker, representing Ado Odo /Ota 1 state constituency , explained that the relief materials were donated to members of his constituency irrespective of political or tribal affiliations.
He noted that some of the food items distributed included rice, semo, instant noodles and cash, saying that it was his desire to always put smiles on the faces of the less privileged in the society.
“What I have done today is my little widow’s mite, which is expected of me at this period as their representative . If I have more , I would have done more than this, and It would have gone even farther than this,” he said.
Speaking, one of the beneficiaries, Mrs Abosede Karimu , applauded the donor with a call on other well meaning Nigerians to emulate him, saying that government alone can not do it.
Another beneficiary, Mr Tony John, was full of praises for the lawmaker, wishing him success in all his endeavours.
” Hon Sheriff is a politician with difference . I am not of his party (APC) and I am an Igboman, yet he gave me and my family all these. We need more of people like him in Nigeria’s politics,” he said.
