The Ogun command of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) , said that no fewer than 48 persons died in various road accidents across the state during the Christmas and New year period.
Mr Clement Oladele , the Sector Commander , made this known in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Wednesday.
Oladele noted that the accidents were recorded during the FRSC special patrol operations between Dec. 15, 2019 and Jan 19, 2020.
The sector commander stated that during the period under review, 321 people were rescued alive in 102 road traffic crashes which claimed 48 lives.
Oladele said that 54 per cent of the crashes recorded within the special patrol operations period that claimed lives occurred around construction zones at Ijebu Ode, Ogere and Mowe.
He added that in Abeokuta five crashes were recorded with two deaths , nine crashes recorded in Ota resulting to three deaths while in Sagamu, 16 crashes were recorded, three deaths and Idiroko had two crashes with two deaths , Km 27 Lagos-Ibadan expressway, five crashes and two deaths
He explained that nine road crashes were recorded in Ijebu Ode, killing 14 persons, 29 crashes recorded in Mowe, killing 10 while in Ogere, a total of 19 road crashes were recorded killing 12.
He stated that 63 road traffic crashes and 30 deaths were recorded same period in 2018 .
He advised motorists to always exercise caution especially at construction zones, saying that they should obey traffic rules and regulations.
