One dies, five injured in Abeokuta -Sagamu road accident


 One person was confirmed dead while five others sustained varying degrees of injuries on Sunday in an accident involving a Nissan Micra and an unregistered Lexus car around Imo Emulu village on Abeokuta -Sagamu road. 

Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi,  the Spokesperson,  Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) confirmed the incident to newsmen in Abeokuta. 

Akinbiyi said that the accident occurred around 12:30pm , saying that it was caused by wrongful overtaking on the part of the driver of the Lexus car which resulted into head on collision with the Micra. 

He explained that seven people were involved in the accident,  adding that six of them were injured while one person died in the accident. 

“According to eye witness, the accident was caused by wrongful overtaking by the unregistered  black Lexus car which resulted in head on collision with the green Micra marked LSR 816 XA,” he said. 

Akinbiyi noted that the injured victims were taken to Federal Medical Center (FMC)  and General hospital , Ijaye in Abeokuta  by TRACE while the deceased  was deposited at the morgue Idera Hospital , Sagamu by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). 

He said that the driver of Lexus car ran away from the accident scene.

The TRACE spokesman appealed to motorists to drive cautiously and also put other road users into consideration.
