Breaking: David Luiz completes £8m Arsenal transfer from Chelsea

Confirmation of the Brazilian’s move from London rivals Chelsea – worth a reported £8m fee – has come via the club’s official website as well as social media channels, thus making him the sixth signing of the summer transfer window.

He joins Gabriel Martinelli, William Saliba, Dani Ceballos, Nicolas Pepe and Kieran Tierney as the new faces at the north London outfit since the end of last season.

It’s understood that Luiz has signed a two-year deal at the Emirates Stadium and will challenge Sokratis, Calum Chambers, Rob Holding, Konstantinos Mavropanos and Shkodran Mustafi for a centre-back spot under Unai Emery.

This deal also marks a reunion between the Gunners head coach and Luiz.

The pair were together briefly at Paris Saint-Germain prior to the defender returning to Stamford Bridge for a second spell in the summer of 2017.

Although Luiz’s previous comments about Emery does make for interesting reading.

“Unai came (to Arsenal) to try to build a new philosophy and to try to gain the trust of the players, from the fans, from the club. I think he has been doing an amazing job,” Luiz said of Emery.

“I had the opportunity to work with Unai for a few months. He’s a great guy, a great coach, a great person.

“He’s passionate. He loves his work. He likes to build teams who are spirited, play with passion and you can see that.

“He has had the opportunity to work with a lot of young players and I think they have understood his philosophy.”
