Three persons were confirmed dead while two others sustained injuries in a lone accident involving a white Iveco truck with registration number AAA 912 XK along Akinale village on Lagos / Abeokuta expressway.
Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, the Spokesperson, Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), confirmed the incident to newsmen in Abeokuta on Tuesday.
Akinbiyi noted that the accident which occurred around 4:10pm was caused by excessive speeding.
“The trailer driver was on top speed when suddenly the driver lost control and the body of the trailer detached from the head as a result of not being properly hooked, before it veered into the bush.
“Among the three confirmed dead was also the driver of the trailer.
“The accidented vehicle has been taken to Ewekoro Divisional Police Station.
Akinbiyi explained that the two injured victims were taken to State Hospital , Ifo, while the corpses of the deceased had been deposited at Ifo General Hospital Mortuary.
Akinbiyi admonished articulated drivers to avoid excessive speed, especially at bends and corners because of its attendant consequences.
“Nevertheless, we commiserate with the families of the victims,” he said.
