The Accord Party candidate who vied to represent Abeokuta South federal Constituency at the House of Representatives in the last election, Barrister Kehinde Somoye yesterday broke his silence on why he left the party for All Progressives Congress (APC), mentioning betrayal as a major reason.
Somoye revealed this while speaking to journalists at a day retreat programme tagged ” Corporate Image and Success of Vigilante Group of Nigeria Ogun State Command ” held at VGN Ogun State Command headquarters in Abeokuta.
While answering questions from journalists on a speculation that he joined APC because of appointment, he said “I crossed to APC, if the right appointment comes, I will take it, but that is not the reason I crossed.
His words ” I joined because a lot of things I saw in Accord Party, our leaders betrayed us, if you look at it, there is no candidate of Accord Party that won the election.”
He maintained that the leadership of the Party are not interested on the success of any candidate adding that they are just demanding for money everyday.
“I saw no future in Accord Party, our leaders betrayed us and I have to look for another alternative that is why I choose APC as the alternative”
He said Abiodun’s commitment before he was elected and after his swore in has shown that he is determined to run a progressive government.
He further explained the challenges he faced as a contestant in the last election, saying that people only vote for money and most of the educated people only stayed at home.
According to him, we campaigned and we are hopeful to get positive responses based on reactions we got from people during the campaign, I was very assure that we will win or come close to winning but on the election day, it was totally different because people vote for money.
