An Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court in Isabo on Friday sentenced a 23-year-old man, Balogun Adeola, to three months imprisonment for stealing phones belonging to his co- labourers valued at N73, 000.
Adeola, of no fixed address, pleaded not guilty to the five-count charge of stealing levelled against him.
The magistrate, Mrs O. A Somefun, in her judgment said that all evidence tendered in court had proved beyond reasonable doubt that the defendant was guilty of the offence as charged.
She consequently sentenced Adeola to three months in the Ibara correctional center with an option of N50,000 fine.
Earlier, the prosecutor, ASP Olakunle Shonibare, told the court that the convict committed the offences on June 3 at Magbon area in Abeokuta.
Shonibare said that the convict stole a Nokia phone valued at N56,000, belonging to one Mrs Muremi Soyinka, and a Bontel phone valued at N3,500, property of one Balogun Kadijat.
He explained further that he also stole Mrs Adebayo Ogunbiyi itel phone valued N65,000 and Mrs Temitope Atobajaye Nokia phone valued at N7,000, all in total to N73,000.
He said the convict was caught when one of the complainants, Atobajaye, went to the defendant’s house to call him for a Job, on getting there he was not around.
He added that the defendant called his phone number and the wife of the defendant came out with a phone telling the complainant that her husband forgot the phone.
According to the prosecutor, Atobajaye identified her phone immediately, the wife brought out the phone, which led to his arrest of the convict.
He said the offence contravened Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Vol. 1, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
