Ogun to resuscitate transporters’ games

The Ogun State Ministry of Youth and Sports is set to resuscitate Transporters’ Games, to promote healthy living and unity among members, through engagement in sporting activities.

Commissioner in the Ministry, Dr. Oluwadare Kehinde in a chat with OGIS correspondent, in Abeokuta, said the games were last held in 2017, noting that the present administration found it necessary to engage members of Transport Unions for subsequent National Sport Festivals and other sporting events.

Kehinde, who stated that the games which include, Football, Athletics, Boxing, Table-tennis, Draught and ‘Ayo’, had been fixed tentatively for July 2021, pointed out that it would help curb unrest and discover new talents among them, which would be of great benefits to the State.

‘’The transporters’ games will have the unions coming together, to enhance their fitness, as a way to forge a common front for union members, towards achieving their common goals, that will drive better performance of their day-to-day activities’’, he said.

The Commissioner made it known that the games would be funded and sponsored by well-meaning individuals, as well as Corporate bodies in the State, in realisation of ‘Building our Future Together’ mantra of the present administration.
