An Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun on Tuesday sentenced a 45-year-old man, Mohammed Ramon, to three years imprisonment for breaking into a shop to steal goods and cash worth N227, 000.
The Magistrate, Mr A.O. Adeyemi, in her ruling, sentenced Ramon to three years in imprisonment with an option to pay N30, 000 fine.
Adeyemi said that the prosecution had proven beyond the case reasonable doubts that the convict was guilty of the charges preferred against him.
Ramon, of no fixed address, had pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge of stealing, conspiracy and burglary.
Earlier, Insp. Emmaneul Adaraloye, had told the court that the convict and others still at large, committed the offences on Dec.2 at about 2.00 a.m.at No.25 Olorunlana Street, Singer Bus-Stop, Ota.
Adaraloye said that Ramon and his accomplices broke into the shop of the complainant, Kafayat Bolale to steal a cash of N32, 000, two sewing machines valued at N120, 000 and others valuable items worth N227, 000.
The prosecutor said that the convict was caught by the Vigilante group and handed over to the police.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 390 (9), 411 (2) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
