Ogun State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Honourable Sikirulah Ogundele has predicted that the ongoing reconciliation moves by the All Progressives Congress ( APC) to reconcile aggrieved members in the state would fail .
The APC Caretaker Committee led by Governor Mai Mala-Buni of Yobe State had last Friday, August 21, inaugurated a Five-member Reconciliation Committee headed by Governor Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa State to reconcile aggrieved members in Imo and Ogun States.
Other members of the committee include, Governor Kayode Fayemi(Ekiti), Governor Simon Lalong (Plateau), Governor Abdullahi Sule (Nasarawa) and Governor Inuwa Yahaya (Gombe ) .
Mala-Buni expressed confidence in the Committee’s individuals and collective capacities in executing the assignment with sense of fairness, justice and responsibility, placing party interest above personal interest.
But Ogundele in an exclusive chat with OgunToday recently in Abeokuta, believed strongly that such reconciliation effort would not work in Ogun State between two groups loyal to both Governor Dapo Abiodun and his predecessor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun representing Ogun Central.
The two groups had been battling for the control of APC structure in the state since late 2018 when the battle for the party’s governorship tickets and other elective positions began ahead of the 2019 polls, leading to dissolution of Chief Derin Adebiyi led state executives committee and replacement by Chief Yemi Sanusi led State APC Caretaker Committee by the then Adams Oshiomohle led National Working Committee .
He insisted that reconciliation process would fall because of his perceived insincerity of members of the committee to reconcile the two groups, stressing that it will be a replica of the APC crisis in Edo State where Governor Obaseki defected to PDP over his irreconcilable differences with predecessor and erstwhile National Chairman of APC, Oshiomohle.
His words” I don’t see how both Governor Dapo Abiodun and Senator Ibikunle will work together in the party because will the reconciliation committee will not be sincere to them “
The PDP State Chairman however expressed readiness of his party to accommodate any of the groups still aggrieved members after the reconciliation process.
He said that PDP would only accommodate members of any of the groups ready to submit themselves to the party supremacy, ruling out automatic tickets to them.
The former Ifo Local Government Chairman assured any of the groups of getting fair treatment within PDP.
On the crisis within PDP in the state, the former member of the State House of Assembly, explained that his state executives committee recognized by the party’s National Secretariat was working seriously with a factional state chairman,Samson Bamgbose loyal to late Senator Buruji Kashamu.
Ogundele assured that his state executives committee was commited to run all inclusive party, asking Bamgbose to stop parading him self as chairman because the Congress that produced him was illegal, “holding Congress at a time when President Buhari and Governor Dapo Abiodun placed ban on public gathering in the state during COVID-19 pandemic in the state.
