Traditional rulers in Ogun waterside call for removal of council chairman

Traditional Rulers from Ogun Waterside Local Government led by Ojotumoro of Abigi Kingdom, Oba Olusegun Ogunye, have made an appeal to the State Government to remove the Chairman of the Transition Committee in the Local Government, Mr. Femi Onanuga over allegation of breach of public peace, disrespect to traditional institution and promotion of conflict in the local government area.

Oba Ogunye, who led other monarchs including Osobia of Makun Omi, Oba Kazeem Salami, Onirokun of Irokun Kingdom, Oba Buari Ola Balogun and Elefire of Efire, Oba Musa Adetokunbo Adeniyi, made the request during a visit to the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo at the Assembly Complex, Oke-mosan, Abeokuta.

The monarchs decried the unruly attitude of the local government Chairman, who they accused of public breach and promotion of conflict, noting that since assumption of office, he had not deemed it fit to call security meeting, rather continue to cause disharmony among the people.

They called on the State House of Assembly to prevail on the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun not to return or extend his tenure as the Local Government Chairman in the interest of peace and development of the council.

Responding, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Oluomo explained that the decision of the house not to confirm the extension of tenure of the Chairman was based on the petitions received from no fewer than eight monarchs and 50 markets women leaders in the Local Government area against the Chairman, hence the decision of the lawmakers to step down the extension of his tenure.

He assured that as representatives of the people, the State House of Assembly would continue to uphold the honour and respect for the traditional institution.

The Speaker assured that the Assembly would convey the requests of the traditional institution and other stakeholders to the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, appealing to them to forgive and forget when the Governor eventually intervenes.

He however charged all political office holders to always honour the traditional institutions and the people, upon whom they derived their authority.
