Ogun Assembly suspends activities of NURTW


 The Ogun House of Assembly on Wednesday passed a resolution suspending the activities of the  National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in order to avoid crisis in the state.Mr Yusuf Sherif (APC -Ado Odo Ota 1), the Majority Leader,  moved the motion for the passage of the resolution during plenary in Abeokuta and was seconded by Mr Jemili Akingbade (ADC -Imeko Afon)”It is the opinion of this House that the activities of the NURTW in Ogun, be suspended and that security agencies should take over the secretariat of the union, pending the time the union will resolve their matter,” Sheriff said.The majority leader further stated  that a committee of  experienced unionists be put in place by the State Government,  to handle the union’s operations during the week, for the purpose of collecting revenue for the government.He said that the committee should  be under the monitoring of the House committee on transportation.Earlier,  Mr Oludaisi Elemide (APC -Odeda),  Chairman, House Committee on Transportation, had hinted the House on the impending crisis in the NURTW.In his submission, the Speaker,  Mr Olakunle Oluomo (APC–Ifo1), said the House would not allow the members of the NURTW to turn the state into a theater of war.“I have received petitions from those that are concerned.  A faction says they have court order, asking the other, to leave office within seven days. We will not allow such crisis in our state, “the speaker said.
