Ogun : NSCDC deploys 250 personnel to enforce govt’s directives on COVID -19

 The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ogun said it had deployed over 250 of its personnel to strategic places to enforce government directives on Coronavirus pandemic in order to reduce the spread. 

Hammed Abodunrin,  State Commandant of the Corps,  disclosed this shortly after sensitising market men, women and  motorcyclists around Kuto round about in Abeokuta on dangers associated with COVID -19 and how to maintain personal hygiene. 

Abodunrin noted that it had  become  imperative to continuously sensitise the market women and traders on the need for personal hygiene looking at the veracity of the scourge of the  pandemic. 

He explained that the Corps aside from ensuring that hand washing facilities were  located at strategic places across the state would continue to visit markets to educate and enlighten the people on ways of preventing the virus.

“As at today,  the number of people infected in Nigeria is more than 50 , in some other countries we know they have it  in their hundreds and thousands and we don’t want that to happen here .

“We are doing this sensitisation in conjunction with the Ministry of Health and Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and the essence is to sensitise people to do what they are told to do.

He added that the command had also developed plans at visiting and sensitising owners and managers of hotels, guest houses and motels on safety precautions  to avoid the transfer of the virus in such an unexpected and massive volume. 

The state commandant opined that owners of such facilities would  be educated on the many ways of preventing the scourge thereby reducing all the forms of getting infected and staying healthy.

Abodunrin said that the command had also set plans in motion to safeguard large gatherings around these places to mitigate the transfer of this virus which was seriously moving from one location to another.

” I can also tell you the state government has formed a task force that will start enforcing this minimum of 20 and social distancing measures 

“Civil defence has disaster management department and the Commandant General,  Abdullahi Muhammed  has directed civil defence nationwide  to  move round and enforce all laws,  all directives as handed out by NCDC and the state  governor’s,” he said. 

The command also visited Lafenwa,  Omida,  Sapon and Adatan area of Abeokuta.
