Teenager bags 1 year sentence for stealing phones


An Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court in Ake on Friday sentenced an 18-year-old boy, Babatunde Ayo, to one year in correctional centre  for stealing phones and cash all valued at N196,000

The Magistrate Mr I.M, Orekoye, sentenced the convict to one year imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to the offence.
Earlier the Prosecutor, Insp. Moshood Hammed told the court that the defendant committed the offence in three different places in Abeokuta all in February.
Hammed, said the defendant, stole phones worth 156,000 and cash sum of N40,000 all valued at N196,000.
He further told the court that on Feb. 2, the convict entered into the house of Mrs Olumefun Abiodun of  No 4 Olumefun Close Agboola Street, Oluwo village off Abiola way in Abeokuta to perpetrate the act.
He said the convict, stole one Infinix Hot 8 phone valued at N36,000, a Techno spark phone valued at N35,000 another Techno F1 valued at N30,000, Techno W3 valued at N25,000, and a small Techno phone valued at N15,000.
He said that the convict also stole N40,000 cash from Mrs Olumefun.
“On Feb 17, Ayo also went to Oluwab Hotel Guest House at Kemta Housing Estate in Abeokuta and stole one Techno spark phone value at N15,000 property of Mr Owolabi Samuel.
Hammed, said as at the time of his arrest he was found with phones and different Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) cards of different networks in his possession which he could not give account of.
“During the cause of investigation after the complainants reported to the police station, the police tracked the phones stolen from the complainants.
“Ayo was arrested through one of the complainants Mr Owolabi’s SIM card which he inserted into the Infinix hot 8 phone stolen from Mrs Olumefun and was using the phone to communicate with his friends,” he said.
According to the prosecutor the offence committed contravened section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun
